Hard Words
The same God who wrote Ephesians 4:1-6 also taught that His words are hard to receive:
All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. Hebrews 12:11"Is not My word like fire?" declares the Lord, "and like a hammer which shatters a rock? Jeremiah 23:29
"Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26
Jesus *said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures, 'THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone; THIS CAME ABOUT FROM THE Lord, AND IT IS MARVELOUS IN OUR EYES'? 43 "Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people, producing the fruit of it. 44 "And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust." Matthew 21:42-44
~'Therefore repent; or else I am coming to you quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of My mouth. Revelation 2:16finallyWhat do you desire? Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love and a spirit of gentleness? 1 Corinthians 4:21
There are many more verses in the Holy words of God that instruct us on the fact that discipline does not feel good yet that discipline still comes from God. That means even the righteous man that falls seven times and rises, Proverbs 24:16, finds falling unpleasant, Hebrews 12:11. It is for this reason that people choose to take offense at the hard words of God's teachings, John 6.
