Healing Miracles (1)

What are healing miracles? Intuitively and simply put, they are powerful healing events that actually happen but that no human being not even scientists can explain how they happen. Secular folks will tend to explain them away via some human explanation. While folks who trust in God's words will explain them via pointing to God's words and thus giving all the praise and explanation to God. So, let's do that.

A search in my Bible software produces a list of 131 verses that contain the word "heal" and all of its derivatives. The first one is in Genesis 20. You are better off if you read the entire chapter yourselves, but here is a summary.

Abraham's thoughts condemned Abimelech's people so Abraham chooses to withhold information about his wife Sarah. Abimelech responds by taking Sarah as his wife.

God tells Abimelech that he is a dead man because Sarah was already married. Abimelech responds saying, "Lord, will You slay a nation, even though blameless?"

God responds:
Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also kept you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her. Now therefore, restore the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.” Genesis 20:6–7.
Abimelech does what God said to do and takes Sarah back to Abraham. But, check out what Abimelech says to Abraham and his response.
"What have you encountered, that you have done this thing?” Abraham said, “Because I thought, surely there is no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife. Genesis 20:10–11.

What has Abraham encountered in Abimelech's kingdom to justify doing what Abraham did? The answer is absolutely nothing. Abraham simply reasoned in his thoughts like Eve did in Genesis 3. And Like Eve, Abraham judged based upon the appearances of what he saw in Abimelech's kingdom, something the Messiah would never do, Isaiah 11:3.

Who cares if Abraham sinned against Abimelech or not. Instead, look at HOW Abimelech repents of the sins God imputed against Abimelech back in verse 3. Abimelech gives lots of valuable stuff to Abraham and Sarah as a huge physical testimony to Abimelech's integrity and Sarah's purity, Genesis 20:14-16. Abimelech actually and literally backs up his words with his actions that cost him, 1 Samual 6:3.

The takeaway:
  1. God will condemn people to death simply because they sin in ignorance.
  2. God heard Abimelech's prayer because of the integrity in Abimelech's heart.
  3. Abimelech confessed in agreement with what God said.
  4. Abimelech repented along with a sacrifice despite the wrong done to him.
  5. God kept His word and healed Abimelech, his wives, and maids, even though they were gentiles.
If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:13–14.
If we want healing, we have to align ourselves with the healer even when we think we've done nothing wrong.

Lord, Jesus

You are the Lord, our healer and there is no god besides You. It is You who puts to death and gives life. You have wounded us and You heal us. There is no one who can deliver from Your hand. Deuteronomy 32:39, Job 5:18.

Lord, please, do not rebuke me in Your anger nor chasten me in Your wrath. Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am pining away. Heal me, O LORD, for my bones are dismayed and my soul is greatly dismayed. --how long?--

Return, O LORD, rescue my soul. Save me because of Your lovingkindness. For there is no mention of You in death. In Sheol, who will give You thanks? I am weary with my sighing. Every night I make my bed swim. I dissolve my couch with my tears. My eyes have wasted away with grief. They have become old because of all my adversaries.

Depart from me, all you who do iniquity, for the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping. The LORD has heard my supplication. The LORD receives my prayer. All my enemies will be ashamed and greatly dismayed. They shall turn back, they will suddenly be ashamed. Psalm 6:1–10.
