Hearing Angels
A number of years ago, I had the privilege of having the experience of witnessing what happens when a person hears angels worshiping God.
A group of approximately 15 of us were asked by a gentlemen in the group to pray for his daughter who was not present. She was in the middle of desperate circumstances that were about to come down upon her in a terrible way. We asked the dad to sit in the middle of our circle. We all gathered around him on her behalf so we could pray with the laying on of hands as described in the Bible.
Because, I did not know the details nor did I know this family well, I took the stance to simply sing in tongues as soft as I could so I would not distract the others actually praying in our common tongue. After some time of intense prayer by all of us, the dad suddenly raised his head to heaven. Looking up he said, "I hear angels!" I looked up to see his profile and saw that his countenance had completely changed from utter down cast with worry and fear to complete joy and peace as he gazed upward.
Immediately after his proclamation, a woman on the other side of the circle said, "No, that's just Diane singing." The very moment she said this though the man continued to listen for the sound but could not find it. Could it be that the woman's proclamation caused the level of faith in the room to diminish and prevented the man from a powerful contact with Jesus?
I have been told many times by various individuals over the years that I have the "voice of an angel." However, I would be arrogant indeed to think that this man could not tell the difference between my human voice in his ears and the sound of angels coming from above.
If indeed he was hearing me sing, why did he look up toward heaven and not at me? Jesus looked up to heaven when He prayed. I was sitting next to him on his right side. He did not turn to me. He turned toward the sound he heard as most people do when they hear someone calling their name.
The Bible says that Jesus inhabits the praises of His people. It is also written that where two or more are gathered in His name there He is in the midst. The dad was sitting in our midst which is where Jesus is when we are gathered in His name. Why should the gentleman not hear angels? It is written that angels encamp around those who fear God.
My point is simply this. A man heard angels and a woman did not hear them. That is why it is written that our sin separates us from God because our sin dims our eyes and dulls our ears. Thus, we are not qualified to negate another man's testimony even if we don't believe it.
